Gaelscoil Riada operates on a multi-denominational ethos, welcoming families of all belief and cultural systems. In order for the school to be recognised by the Department of Education a school community must have a written religion policy. In keeping with the multi-denominational philosophy, the school follows a core-curriculum of religious instruction called ‘Croí na Scoile’. These guidelines were formulated by An Foras Patrúnachta for Irish Medium Multi-Denominational schools.
The curriculum is divided into four strands…
Personal Development: This strand nurtures the moral, spiritual, social and ethical development of your child enabling your child to develop a sense of understanding of their place in the world in which they live.
The World, Ethics and the Environment: Here your child is enabled to realise their own potential and the contribution that they can make to their environment. Our green school campaign is a central part of this strand.
Belief System: Your child will learn about other belief systems, values, cultures and lifestyle of people different to them fostering a sense of respect, tolerance and shared understanding.
Other areas of relevance to your child’s life.
The Board of Management will make every effort in so far as possible to support denominational groups outside of school hours. Denominational instruction will be taught through Irish, in keeping with the ethos of An Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lánghaeilge Teo. The teaching of denominational religious instruction is not the responsibility of the school teaching staff. Parents are advised to make denominational arrangements for their child at the beginning of the school year in consultation with the school.
